How to Turbo Charge Your Traffic With Social Marketing

For anyone who still questions the value of Social Network Marketing take a look at this:

Traffic Trend Jan to Mar

Update 3rd December 2008:

Jack Humphrey’s Social Power Linking site has been merged with his Authority Site Center site into a new blog training site called Blog Success. Therefore I’ve re-directed the Social Power Linking links below to Blog Success. If you’re interested in blogging and social marketing this new site is well worth a look.

Not big numbers compared to some, I know, but look where it’s headed…

The down-pointing arrow shows the date on which I joined Jack Humphrey’s Social Power Linking membership site.

Having known of Jack from last year as a result of picking up a free copy of the Authority Blackbook, (it’s still free) I immediately pricked up my ears when I learned that he was launching Social Power Linking back in January, and I joined a few days later.

So what are my impressions after 2 months of membership..?

Very well worth the monthly fee – and the picture above says why.

What do you get for your fee..?

  1. An active and growing forum that has become increasingly busy over the past 2 and a bit months since Social Power Linking was launched. Jack is a regular contributor. He picks up and responds to questions quickly and clearly, but there are an increasing number of experienced social marketers who also chip in with help and advice. This forum has a real buzz about it now.
  2. Help and guidance on setting up and running your WordPress blog. Self-hosted WordPress blogs are accepted pretty much universally among the online crowd as being the most search engine friendly, customizable blogging platform around. Social Power Linking is heavily focused on WordPress and you can get answers to pretty much any question at all on setting it up, customizing it and operating it.
  3. Help and guidance on Social Network Marketing – from the Social Network Marketing King. Jack Humphrey has been doing Social Network Marketing since before anyone else knew about it. He is accepted as an industry leader on ways to use the social bookmarking, media and networking sites to generate healthy waves of targeted traffic to your sites. Again – refer to the picture above.
  4. Regular training calls, hosted by Jack and discussing social networking techniques.
  5. Regular new videos, audios and PDF documents discussing new social marketing techniques.  New information in one of these formats is usually available about every 10 days or so.
  6. A social marketing 60 day jump start plan – taking you step by step through getting yourself set up to become a Social Power Marketer.
  7. Social Marketing 101 training for the complete beginner, explaining what everything means and dealing with some of the common whisperings about social marketing.
  8. New software applications to help cut down the time required to do your social marketing activities.

… and the list goes on.

Social Power Linking is a University for Social Network Marketers. And Social Network Marketing is how marketing will be done going forwards.

Anyone who has read any of Seth Godin’s books, or follows his blog, will know that Permission Marketing is quickly replacing ‘Interruption Marketing’ as the most cost-effective way of promoting whatever it is you’re selling.

Social Network Marketing is the implementation of Permission Marketing.

If you need targeted traffic to your site, and long to escape the tyranny and cost of Adwords, you should seriously check out Social Power Linking.

Hey Martin,

Looks like you’re heading for bright days in your business.

Keep on social power linking!

Walt

Thanks Walt..!

Things are definitely better than they were a couple of months ago, and that’s due to the support from you and the others in SPL. But still a long way to go yet..!

Cheers,

Martin.

Sweet chart! Looks to be a 800% increase in traffic in two months. Nice work.

I hope you add that kind of boost to everbody’s home business.

WealthyDragon March 30, 2008 at 11:06 am

Thanks Eric!

I’d love to be able to promise to do that for everyone’s home business, but actually it’s the combined efforts of the members at SPL – all I did was write posts and follow the guidance.

The reason for putting this up was twofold:

1) To show that if you stick at it you can get results – but they don’t happen overnight. Remember – it’s been 2 and a half months since I joined SPL.

2) To demonstrate that using these techniques does work.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Martin.

The problem is the quality of traffic is awful! They’re browsers – not buyers. Just my 2 cents.

WealthyDragon July 18, 2008 at 7:37 am

Thanks IMU,

You’re right – the initial traffic is largely bounce traffic. But the objective is to get the initial traffic noticed by a ‘Guru’ so that he/she visits your site out of curiosity.

If he/she likes your post (or site) and links to it that will bring you a far more valuable type of traffic: their readers.

That’s what you’re aiming for – not the initial traffic itself.

Cheers,

Martin.

Nice tips! I’m sure I can pick up a thing or two from this. By the way, I find word of mouth marketing as a viable way of viral promotion. I’m surprised by the lack of bloggers who actually use such a method. But, that’s just my oinion though. Cheers! Nadeesha.

WealthyDragon August 12, 2008 at 5:21 pm

Thanks Nadeesha,

For sure, word of mouth is a powerful viral marketing method – and one which I use.

But IMO it doesn’t have the leverage that email ‘word of mouth’ would have simply because of the numbers. (Unless you’re doing a presentation where several hundred people hear your word of mouth recommendation at the same time!)

Cheers,

Martin.

“You’re right – the initial traffic is largely bounce traffic. But the objective is to get the initial traffic noticed by a ‘Guru’ so that he/she visits your site out of curiosity.”

My question is how is the “Guru’s” going to notice my traffic? It’s not like they have access to my logs or somehting

WealthyDragon August 31, 2008 at 9:15 am

Selif, hi,

Great question – and thanks for bringing it up! When I re-read what I wrote it does sound a bit whacky, but…

The point I was trying to make is this: the Gurus (along with many thousands of people) check things like the Digg front page most days just to keep abreast of what’s going on.

If you can get a post onto the front page of Digg that’s when it may be noticed by a Guru, who would visit in order to see what all the fuss was about.

Hope that helps to clear it up!

Cheers,

Martin.

Just wondering…can you tell a bit about the revenue increase this brought you. Having a high visist stat graph bar is great but if it’s only browsers and no buyers what’s the point?

WealthyDragon September 12, 2008 at 8:13 am

Edwin, hi,

My revenue from this blog has increased steadily.

But that hasn’t been my top priority goal over the past year. What I’ve been trying to do with this blog is to increase the proportion of traffic from natural search results. And in that respect it’s been very successful.

Increasing the revenue will come later, as my search engine traffic grows.

As I’ve said a couple of times: the high volumes of traffic you get initially is bounce traffic. What you’re looking for is the second wave – i.e. the traffic that comes as a result of your blog being noticed initially because of the high initial bursts of traffic.

Cheers,

Martin.

That’s the best reveiw of SPL, I’ve seen great job and some nice honesty about your goals for this site.

I’m sure with this level of content and commitment to building community on your site with the great replies to your comments the traffic will continue upwards.

WealthyDragon September 14, 2008 at 9:52 am

Thanks Kenny!

That’s a nice looking blog you’ve got there and I totally agree with your comments on Stumbleupon.

A very large proportion of the traffic in the graphic at the start of this post was from Stumbleupon.

Cheers,

Martin.

I’m on my way to Jack Humphreys site now. Those numbers are good enought that I need to respect the power of “Power Social Marketing”. Thanks for sharing your experience.
