Sure – that model would work well and I accept that in some industries (for example the arts) traditional resumes will still be popular simply because the industry itself is less attuned to working online.

But if you’re running a successful blog there are few more powerful ways of illustrating your skills.

After all, resumes can be written to give pretty much any impression you want.

I would use the model where you have a professional CV in PDF whcih contains a hyperlink to your linkdin account, where your blog link is located. That way you would still look professional and will offer as much useful information about yourself in a few steps.

Thanks – and I can certainly see why you would have an interest in Resumes being retained!

However, I think there’s a new ‘conventional’ emerging. There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t put your resume online via LinkedIn or one of the others and, if someone chooses to do so, to create any other online branding.

I’ve found it so much more efficient to be able to simply send someone a link when they want to see my resume. And if they need a hard copy they can simply print it out.

It’s also a heck of a lot easier to keep up to date and ensure that everyone has access to the latest version.

If someone wants to create a blog or website to further showcase their skills and experience that’s great – and it creates an opportunity to give much more colour and depth to a person’s background and skills than a simple resume.
