I took myself off on holiday recently and decided use WordPress’ scheduled publishing feature to keep the content flowing on this site while I was lying on the beach.
I simply wrote some articles before I left and scheduled them to be published every other day while I was away.
It’s such a useful feature that I thought it may be helpful to write a description of how to use it – so here goes:
Step 1: Write and preview your post in the normal way.
Step 2: Once you’re satisfied with the article you would normally hit the ‘Publish’ button. Don’t!
Instead, click the edit link just above the ‘Publish’ button – circled below:

Step 3: When you click that link the date and time fields will be displaid – circled below:

Specify the date and time at which you want your article to be published (1) and click the ‘OK’ button (2)
Step 4: After clicking the ‘OK’ button the ‘Publish immediately’ text will be replaced by ‘Schedule for: [the date and time you've selected]‘ – circled below:

And the text on the ‘Publish’ button will change to ‘Schedule’.
Step 5: Click the ‘Schedule’ button. The ‘Post published’ confirmation message that you normally see after you publish a post will, instead, say ‘Post Scheduled for [the date and time you selected]‘.
Step 6: Once you see that confirmation message you’re all done.
OK – enjoy the beach. ![]()
