Think Your Way to Success

in How to Create Success

In this business, as in most things, attitude makes the difference between success and failure.

Within the definition of attitude I’m including a positive mindset, a winning mindset, a can-do mindset and a never give up mindset.

I’ve long been a fan of Zig Ziglar. I don’t even remember how I first found him, but I do remember listening to his tapes in my car when I was living in the UK and doing a lot of driving. One of Zig’s expressions that has stuck with me ever since I first heard it is:

“You can get anything you want in life if you just help enough other people get what they want”.

That struck a chord with me because I enjoy training. I enjoy helping others to deal with problems or further their business, or their careers, or whatever.

So much so, that while I was living in the UK I qualified as a Management Seminar instructor with the Dale Carnegie Training organization and had the privilege of running many courses which (I hope!) benefited the participants.

At least – they all said that in the post course interviews, so I’m sticking with that!

Dale Carnegie Training also focuses a lot on attitude. In fact one of the lines I used at the beginning of every course I ran was that you can achieve anything you want if you have a method and a positive attitude.

To demonstrate that, I used to show the entire group how they could memorise a list of 20 random objects so well that they could recite them forwards or backwards, or from any point in the middle of the list – all within 5 minutes and with 100% accuracy.

It never took more than 5 minutes for the entire group to be able to achieve that yet, when I asked them before the exercise how long they thought it would take, the answers ranged from hours to days!

The question of attitude came up again this morning in a mentoring session held by the Global Abundance Program. I was really impressed by one of the speakers. This guy dropped out of college and started his own business selling lemon juice. He bounced around from business to business and, by his own admission, had a pretty poor attitude.

He eventually signed up with an online business that was very similar to G.A.P. but didn’t get anywhere. He was beginning to think that the business was no good, and would never work for him.

Then one weekend he was away at a family gathering and when he returned found that he had made 5 sales. Since the ticket price was $4,000 that meant he had earned $20,000 in one weekend – just when he was thinking about giving up on the business!

That changed his attitude once and for all. Today he’s extremely successful in G.A.P. – so much so, that he was asked to present at the mentoring session this morning.

All because of his change of attitude.

Update 19th August, 2009:

I withdrew from the G.A.P. business some time ago as a result of its failure to deliver the primary product – despite me (and everyone else) waiting for more than a year.

As a result I seriously considered deleting this article, but I chose to keep it because the message is applicable to any business.

Just don’t do it with G.A.P.!

Martin,

Great post… I agree attitude is huge in one’s success.

When people not only have a positive attitude, but act like they are already a six or seven figure income earner, people will become attracted to them.

Warmly,
Brian
