Why You’ll Be Successful…

by Martin on 13 August, 2007

in How to Create Success

During one of the first training sessions I had after investing in the Global Abundance Program I was told: Know your ‘Why’. If you want to succeed, know your ‘Why’.

When I first heard that I thought they meant ‘Y’. And I had NO clue what they meant!

What they were talking about, though, is no different from what’s preached in every self-development book you read: People who are successful have a clear vision of where they want to be. An over-arching goal. A life plan. A reason for doing what they’re doing.

I like this analogy to illustrate the importance of having a vision of where we want to be:

Opportunities pass us by every day. If we have no vision those opportunities will keep on passing us by and nothing will ever change. But if we do have a vision we’ll recognize the right opportunity as soon as it appears. And we’ll grab it, because we will recognize that it moves us towards our vision.

Here’s an expression I read today from Napoleon Hill:

“…Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity…”. The message was that, while some complain about others having ‘all the luck’, the reality is that we each make our own luck. We do it through a combination of our attitude and knowing (or not!) where we’re going.

I’m a fan of affirmations and visualization as success techniques. Both of those techniques work on developing a success oriented sub-conscious mindset. Once our sub-conscious mind clearly understands our vision, it will direct our conscious activities so that everything we do will move us towards where we want to be.

Success takes years of preparation – mental conditioning, planning and focus.

What they meant in that G.A.P. training session was: have a clear vision of where you want to be and keep reminding yourself of it. Surround yourself with your vision: pictures or photographs of your goal (a flashy car, a big house, etc) or simply a written statement.

Make sure your sub-conscious never loses sight of your vision, and it will constantly direct your conscious activities towards it.

Update – 12 July, 2009:

Please note that I’m no longer associated with the Global Abundance Program and do not endorse it.  However, the message in this article is valid, so I’ve left it in place.
