This CopyBlogger post from Brian Clark has finally set my mind at ease.
Ever since I’ve been getting involved with the social network sites I’ve had this nagging feeling that I should be blogging on them – and if I wasn’t that the world was going to pass me by.
But I never had any intention of giving up this blog and, therefore, blogging on the social network sites always seemed to me to be a duplication of work.
If I had given up this blog and moved my blogging activities to Apsense, or DirectMatches, or MySpace I would have become a small fish in a very big pond. By staying here I’m a big fish in my own pond.
This is me. So no – I’m not giving it up.
And Brian’s post came out with pretty much everything I had been thinking to myself.
Plus, I get more traffic here than I have done at any of my social network sites – although some of the traffic here has come from the social networking sites.
That doesn’t mean to say that I’m not participating – I am. I reply to questions on LinkedIn and I exchange emails with contacts on Direct Matches, MySpace and Apsense.
But, although it’s easy to get caught up in the tide of opinion, it’s usually wise to listen to your gut feel before you jump in.
I’m glad I did, and thanks, Brian for clearing the final nagging doubts from my mind!
