Time for a little brag

I just completed building my first website using only CSS.  It’s true that I had to use HTML in the headers and to create the divs in the page.  I also had to use HTML commands for things like Italics and bolding where it was needed in the content, but that’s pretty much all.

Not only am I seriously pleased with myself but I discovered an unexpected benefit…

When I was using only HTML to format my pages, I always had to make compromises to get my pages to render the same in different browsers.

Even after all those compromises there were still differences, and it was a case of getting the display to render as close to consistently as I could. But there were always differences.

With CSS I’ve discovered all that hassle goes away!

Internet Explorer (typically) still has a wrinkle or two that I haven’t cracked yet: it ignores the <br> command between the items in a bulleted list, for one.

But hey – that’s a gazillion times easier than it was before!

And once you’ve finalized the CSS Stylesheet to format your first page you’re all done.  For the entire site.

All you need to do then is focus on your content.

Brilliant!

So I’m off out for a celebratory beer..!

Hey Martin,
Great job and patience with your site, something that I don’t have the patience or time for. Cheers with a cold one!

Thanks Andrew..!

I’m just beginning to build sites for other people so I needed to get to grips with CSS for that reason – hence the incentive for the patience!

Cheers,

Martin.
