I had a plan to go Karting with a friend yesterday, but a couple of hours before we left we got a text message warning us that the weather wasn’t looking good and it may be called off.
I met up with Robert as planned (I’d agreed to help him with something else prior to leaving) and, for sure, the weather didn’t look promising.
Robert was in two minds about going, since it was a long way and it did look like it could be called off. But in the end we did.
Good decision.
Just after we got there it did start to rain – but not too heavily. And, after a 20 minute weather delay, we eventually got out on the track and had a great day.
So what’s the lesson for bloggers?
If you’re going to do it, whatever ‘it’ is, take Nike’s advice and just do it.
That could be starting a new blog, overhauling your current blog, changing its direction. Anything.
It’s so easy not to start because you can’t be sure of the result, or you’ve not been able to anticipate all the problems.
And many times the result is you never get started at all.
So just get stuck in. Approach it with the mindset that you can’t possibly anticipate every problem, and resolve to deal with things as they arise.
Decide what you want to do. And get started.
You’ll almost certainly be pleased you did – just like our Go-Karting day.
Happy New Year to you all – I hope 2010 brings you all the success you deserve!

Hi Martin
Sounds like a New Year’s resolution to me.
I know exactly what you mean… I think of all the things that could go wrong before I make any changes to my blog… and it stops me doing anything!
So I’m with you for the New Year…. “Just do it”
Have a great 2010

Spot on Martin! I agree 100% .Forget the books, forget meticulous planning just dive in there and do it.
Before I started my online business I read a number of books about the usual stuff, planning etc. There’re all full of the same stale advice. It wasn’t until I just jumped in and started trading that I really began to learn.
There’s nothing like facing real problems in a real time market to concentrate the mind on finding solutions. I learned on the wing. Sometimes it was hectic, sometimes I felt overwhelmed but eventually I got a grip and started to take control and become professional.
Sure I made lots of mistakes, I did things that when I look back now make me winch in embarrassment and I ask myself “what was I thinking of?” I learned more in one year of online trading than I could have learned in years of reading about it. I realise now how naive I was at the time, how little I knew but I wouldn’t change the experience for anything.
I went from casual EBay seller to power seller and eventually to commissioning an ecommerce site within a year, building up a customer base of thousands. From there I moved into internet marketing. I’m learning all the time, and failing much of the time but always coming back wiser and stronger.
I’m currently learning all I can about internet marketing and I’ve had some spectacular failures, but each time I gain a nugget of knowledge for the next attempt. Was it Winston Churchill who said: “success is going from failure to failure”
The hardest part is taking the decision to act. Once we make the decision and jump into the ring, we all discover than we’re braver than we thought, stronger than we believed and we all have the ability to become more than we are.
Great positive post
Paul

Hi Paul,
It probably was Winston Churchill, although I don’t remember. Along similar lines there’s an expression that says ‘if you haven’t failed you haven’t tried’.
Sounds like you’ve got a great business going there – brilliant!
And all the best for 2010 to you too,
Cheers,
Martin.
Ho, sorry, I meant to say.
Happy New year!

I agree that more time gets spent on evaluation and discussion, a virtual procrastinating game, than actually doing something for the blogsite.
It’s a common problem, unfortunately!
Martin.
Happy New Year. I’m spending the first weeks of the New Year trying to settle on a direction. In the meantime, I am slowly building up traffic. Yeah!
